Frequently asked questions
The questions people actually ask me.
These are the real questions that come up before someone books — about insurance, virtual sessions, whether their particular kind of tired counts as a reason to start. Straight answers, no sales pitch.
Sessions and eligibility
Do you provide virtual therapy throughout Texas?
Yes. All individual counseling at The LAB Wellness Group PLLC happens by secure video. I'm licensed in Texas, which means I can work with you as long as you are physically located in Texas at the time of your session. The practice is based in Frisco, but clients meet with me from across the state. Details, including privacy and when telehealth isn't the right setting, are on online therapy in Texas.
What is the free 15-minute consultation like?
It's a short call, not an intake interview. You tell me what's going on and what you're hoping changes; I tell you honestly how I'd approach it and whether I'm the right clinician for it. If I'm not, I'll say so and point you somewhere better. Nothing is decided on that call except whether you want a first session.
What happens in the first full session?
We go wider before we go deep: history, what you've already tried, what's actually getting in the way day to day. By the end you'll leave with a direction — what we're working on, roughly how, and what to expect. You should never wonder what therapy is “doing.”
Cost and insurance
How much does therapy cost?
$165 per 50-minute session for private pay. With insurance, your cost depends on your plan's copay, coinsurance and deductible. Full details are on the fees and insurance page.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Insurance is billed through Headway, which verifies your benefits and handles the paperwork. Accepting a plan is not the same as your policy covering therapy, so confirm your own eligibility, copay and deductible before your first session.
What insurance plans does The LAB Wellness Group accept?
Currently: Ascension (SmartHealth), Curative, Providence Health Plan, Anthem EAP – Standard, Anthem EAP – Expanded, Carelon Behavioral Health, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare / Optum, Oxford / Optum, Oscar / Optum, and Cigna. See the full insurance list and coverage details.
Do you accept Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas?
Yes, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is accepted. Because BCBSTX plans differ widely by employer group, verify your specific behavioral health benefits — copay, deductible and any visit limits — before booking.
Do you accept Aetna?
Yes, Aetna is accepted. Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your individual plan's copay and whether your deductible has been met.
Do you accept Cigna?
Yes, Cigna is accepted. If your Cigna coverage runs through an employee assistance program, mention that on the consult call so we handle the billing correctly from the start.
Do you accept UnitedHealthcare or Optum?
Yes. UnitedHealthcare / Optum, Oxford / Optum and Oscar / Optum are all accepted, since behavioral health for these plans is administered through Optum.
What if my plan isn't on the list?
You can still work with me as a private-pay client at $165 per session, and you can request a Good Faith Estimate beforehand. Some plans also reimburse out-of-network care — your insurer can tell you what they'd cover.
What I work with
Do you work with adults who have ADHD?
Yes — it's a central part of my practice. Most of my ADHD clients are adults who were missed for years and are exhausted from compensating. We work on how your brain actually operates and what to do with that, not planner homework. Read more about ADHD therapy for adults.
Do I need an ADHD diagnosis before starting therapy?
No. Plenty of people start with a strong suspicion and no paperwork. Therapy can help you sort out what's ADHD, what's anxiety, what's burnout and what's a life that's simply overloaded. I don't provide psychological testing, and if formal evaluation would help, I'll tell you and help you find it.
Do you work with anxiety and depression?
Yes. Anxiety, chronic stress, and depressive symptoms are among the most common reasons people come to The LAB — often the high-functioning kind that nobody around you notices because you keep delivering. We work on what's driving it and what actually shifts it. Read more about anxiety and burnout therapy or depression and life transitions.
Do you work with trauma?
Yes, from a trauma-informed stance: we go at a pace you control, and we pay attention to how past experiences still shape how you work, rest and trust. You will never be pushed to retell more than is useful. Here's what trauma-informed therapy looks like here.
Do you work with burnout and high-achieving professionals?
Yes, and it's who I see most. Burnout that looks like success from the outside — promotions, praise, and nothing left over for yourself. We look at the whole system, not just your coping skills, and we distinguish stress, anxiety and burnout rather than treating them as one thing — see anxiety and burnout therapy or therapy for high-achieving women.
Do you work with helping professionals?
Yes. Therapists, nurses, physicians, social workers, teachers, ministry leaders and other people whose job is to hold everyone else. I led counseling services for a 48,000-student system, so the ethical weight, the caseload math and the guilt around resting are familiar territory. More on therapy for helping professionals.
Do you offer workshops or training?
Yes — psychoeducational workshops and staff training for schools, colleges, employers and faith communities. See workshops and training.
What if I'm in crisis right now?
If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, don't wait for a consult: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room. Therapy is important, but it isn't emergency care.
